$50 T-shirt

Beams, which sells trendy (and pricy) tees to Tokyo hipsters, promotes new designs in display cases on the walls of its shop in Daikanyama, a posh part of town. One of the British School mums took a few of us newcomers on a guided tour the other day that included good places to buy lacquerware, Old Imari pottery and Tenugui, dyed cotton cloths that are used as hand towels, scarves, wall hangings, place mats, gift wrap, even greeting cards, as they can be screen-printed with a written message.
